Aimes Design

Most of you may know that I have this store online called PRETTYrubbish.  It's actually through a site called Etsy that houses plentiful artists and crafters where they can sell their goods and all the pretty things they collect.

Well, other than my little vintage store PRETTYrubbish  http://www.etsy.com/shop/PRETTYrubbish?ref=pr_shop_more, I have another store that better showcases my talents.

This store is called Aimes Design  http://www.etsy.com/shop/Aimes88?ref=pr_shop_more

In this shop, I am able to sell invitations and cards that I designed and created with my mind and hands.  I take a lot more pride in this shop too, because I'm actually putting my hard work and talent that took 5 long College years to perfect.

So please, browse, and enjoy some of my work.  It's still a work in process.  I have a lot more work that I plan to post, so please keep a look out for some blog updates.

Here's a little taste before your browse...

Also, if you like what you see, please feel free to email me, and I would love to create some invites, cards, ANYTHING for you!

ONE more thing.  My good friend also has a great shop where she sells and showcases her talents as well.  Check her out

English 101 back in session

Cheers mate!

So remember a few months back?  You know, before I went back to the states because el lover went away to serve this country elsewhere? I had these little English to English sessions, remember?  Well Bitches, Classes are back in session and I got more words for you to enjoy!!!!!

Whilst in the states, I wanted to continue the classes, but due to the fact that the US uses words that don't even exist in the dictionary and shizz, I decided that wouldn't have been a great idea.  So, with that said and explained.  Here is the new word for the new semester::

Candy Floss.
(It's actually more of a phrase than word)

Before I tell you what it means in UK English.  Can you please raise your hand and tell me what you think it may be?

You, over there please?

Pink dental floss, you say?  I'm afraid not.

Anyone else?

A type of candy?  Yes...a bit close....give up?  OK here's the answer::

No silly, it's not the girl wearing a pink shirt, it's the other pink thing that adorns her.  Yes, my darling friends of the US, "Candy Floss" is indeed UK's word version of Cotton Candy.

I was a bit perplexed as to how this name came about for this voluptuous piece of sugary goodness.  I mean, I actually took a closer look to see if there were strings in their cotton candy, and thought that's why it was called "candy floss."  But to no avail.  Instead, I found this
Just a whole bunch of fluffy.

So just a little tip for those planning on attending a carnival or a theme park in the UK, if someone asks you if you would like some candy floss, please don't think that they are offering you some type of hygienic teeth cleaner.  It is, in fact, the other way around....

Now, for those of you who would like to get extra credit, if you are able to complete this little step by step process to create some yummy UK Candy Floss, you will be my favorite pupil forever.

To make a long story skirt...

As I am here on my couch catching up on the fashion scene, I am noticing a fashion statement that has got me all sorts of happy.

Long Skirts

I LAAAAAV Long skirts!  Really I do.  I see them as sweats, but in a dress up kind of way.  And what I love about the way they are dressing up these skirts, or maybe I should say dress down, is that they are pairing them with something pretty casual.  This is my favorite statement by far.  Don't be surprised to see upcoming pictures of me in a long skirt and a hoodie, it just might make it my daily uniform.  Skeeee!

Check out some of the ways they are rocking this long piece of material

How would you like your eggs?

Free Range please.....

Yeah, I've never heard of those kind of eggs before until I set foot on this land.  Whilst driving through the rural country side, which is practically my hood, I would always see signs that said Free Range Eggs.  Now, with me and my very optimistic ways of thinking, when I first sighted a sign as such, I jumped way off my seat and yelled in my hubby's ear, "OMG!  Babe!  Free eggs????  Are you Forreal???"  And then Ricardo does that little chuckle that I often hear, with an amused face.  He then breaks it down to his gullible wife that in fact people are not giving away free eggs.  That it's a type of egg that's nice to Chickens....we have it in the states and it has another name.  And me being a visual person shall give you a link to gather more info about this thangy thang.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-range_eggs

Well, to me these eggs taste a bit more different.  They seem a little happier to me.  Probably due to the fact that happy little hens lay them.  IDK, whatever it is, it's yummy. Anyway, the taste of these eggs are not what I'm here blogging about....it's the journey of how I get to acquire them.  Mira.

So me and my main squeeze found that we like to eat a lot of eggs.  And the fact that our bellies require so much eggs, we found that buying a dozen eggs from the commissary at little over than 2 dollars a pop, was starting to burn a little unwanted hole in our  wallets.  So, with the helpful, wise words of one of his British co-workers, we found that free range eggs at this one farm located  nearby was a better deal for us.

And so the journey begins.....

First of all, you have to drive down this dirt path that is only big enough to fit one car.
So if another driver decides to be dumb and drive down that same path whilst you are getting your eggs, you and the other driver shall be shit out of luck.

After about half a mile or so, you approach this wooden box
Doesn't look very inviting...and nothing close to a supermarket fridge, but hey it works.  Anywho, inside this wooden box are these::

Obviously.  Now, you're probably thinking...."Um, I don't see a clerk or attendant to collect the money."  Well, my friends, over here in England, people have morals.  Unlike MOST people in the states, more than most of the residents follow this thing called honorary system.  See, a tray of 30 eggs costs £3.50.  In US dollars, that would equal $5.64, which is a better deal than the commissary eggs.  Ok, so inside that wooden box, nestled next to the eggs is a money box.  And yes, if you put two and two together, you are right.  You drop that money in that box, grab a tray, and you are golden.

Not trying to bash my fellow citizens and shizz, but if you were to leave a whole bunch of eggs and money box in a wooden box similar to that above in the states, more than likely the next day, you would only find the tire tracks of the person's car that decided to make all those eggs plus the money box a donation for themselves.  You would also probably see a new egg "vendor" selling eggs in a similar tray that you used on a corner somewhere nearby.  It may not be true....but I'm just sayen from past experiences.....

And yeah, that's the journey that we take to get eggs over here.  It seems pretty odd and not too exciting, but it makes this fat girl highly entertained.

Another thing that I would like to add to this blog before I go is this::

You can't really see it very well due to the blurriness of the shot.  But it may be a good thing for those with the sensi stomaches.  What it is, is poop or maybe the liquid that would accompany the egg after the chicken spits it out down there.  I just thought I'd add this to demonstrate the freshness of the eggs.....Also, Rick's co-worker mentioned that if you were to get some eggs early in the morning, they would still be warm.  HEhehe That was my goal this morning, but guess I wasn't early enough...poo.....

Just another Jessie J song...

...That's F'n RROCKS! I cannot get enough of this lady! her voice is butter to my ears....
ENJOY!

Oh you Antique huh?

I love the word Vintage.  It's so.....vintage.  I mean, once that word comes out of someone's mouth and hits my eardrums, that word just infiltrates my mind with such wondrous things.  It's one my favorite adjectives. It just makes everything sound so much more attractive.  OK here, take the word, "jacket."  Now, add vintage to the word and you've got this, "vintage jacket."  Doesn't that sound more appealing?    I dig it.
That one simple word adds so much history to a simple noun, so much characteristic, elegance, so much szhoozsh.  Anything that looks vintage is always beautiful, I have never some across anything otherwise.  And in some cases, vintage can also taste beautiful.

Well, now that I'm residing over yonder in Jolly Ol' England, I have become acquainted with not only more vintage shizz, but with this one lady.  Her name is Antique.  Holy Scheiße!  I cannot get enough of this BZ!  She's flippen fantastic!

So, I've been getting heavily into my little online store on Etsy.com  My Prettyrubbish Store. http://www.etsy.com/shop/PRETTYrubbish?ref=pr_shop_more
Pretty much everything I sell there is all vintage stuff that have I discovered across all the lands that I stomp ground on.  I mainly gather my treasures at local thrift shops, charity shops, carboots, garage sales.  Well, about a few weeks ago, I've upgraded to antique shops.  England gave me no choice.

Dude, everywhere you go all you see are signs advertising antique fairs
and along the roadside, you'd see banners like so. hollering out antiques::
Please pardon the motion effect, I was driving whilst taking this pic.  Danger is my middle name.

So me, being me, and always wanting to be apart of the hype, I succumbed to these signs and entered one of these glorious stores.  As soon as I set foot into that store, I felt like Marty McFly.  It was like a time machine!
First thing you sense is the yummy antiquey smell....I love the smell of old things....except people....no offense.  Then, because it just seems right to have them in the store, you hear the creaky floor boards below your feet making music to every footstep you make.  And then, there are the items.  I really felt as though I was invading a person's home from every decade.  I mean, there were rooms of furniture and clothes, and trinkets of every era.
The rooms looked very similar to this.  I was afraid to take pictures because as soon as I walked in a sign said we were on CCTV and I didn't want to get thrown out.
Anywho.....you walk through rooms and rooms of beautiful treasures, and every item you pick up never fails to make your mouth gape open and, "ooooh" and "aaaaa," and say, "Look!  You know what this is????"  And half the time, you really don't know what it is, but it's still pretty badass.  I mean you could find things that you thought would never ever touch in person and only see on TV.  Things like Old police hats, old military uniforms, a glass vanity 1920's table, a highchair from the early 1900's or even a little baby's nightgown from the 1800's,  elegant jewelry from flappers, hot iron hair presses, a letter to a soldier from his dear love.....it's endless.

Anyways, that's been my current obsession, and I think it may last for a very long time.  It just makes me feel so much more appreciative of all the things we've got and of the history that we have in our past.  It's like each item has a story, and this curious and nosey mind of mine, is always hungry for more.  I heart.   I actually even got the hubby into this whole antique scene.  Holla!

Anyways....let me share with you some of the items that I have found, that can also be found in my PRETTYrubbish store::

This right here is a crumb tray and brush...which was pretty much used to sweep up the soot from the fireplace....and maybe even as a dust pan
This is a brass salt and pepper and sugar set
This bad boy right here is a traveling hanger.  It folds open and close for traveling conveniences.
These little guys are old slate pencils that had to be carved rather than sharpened.  Cool right?????

Also, being on the Vintage and Etsy hype, check out a good friend of mine's shop as well.  Wrenne shop.
She makes BEAUTIFUL vintage style jewelry that's just pure eye candy.  Not being biased, she's one of my favorite jewelry and handbag designers. Boooyahh!  Check her out!
